IFREMER is involved in
altimeter wave height measurements and validation. An independent monitoring of the
quality of significant wave height, and wind speed measurements
from the various altimeter missions was performed regularly for a long time.
A merged altimeter wave height data base has been set up, providing GDR Ku-band
wave height, backscatter coefficient and wind speed, together with proposed
corrections. The database includes the measurements from ERS-1, ERS-2,
TOPEX-Poseidon, GEOSAT Follow-On, ENVISAT, Jason-1, Jason-2 and Cryosat-2 altimeter
missions.
The database was updated in 2012. Please have a look at the data and documentation (data sources, validation results, corrections) on the IFREMER ftp
The Oceanflux Greenhouse Gases project is a two year project funded by the European Space Agency, the objective is to improve the quantification of air-sea exchanges of greenhouse gases. The work is to develop and validate new and innovative products combining field data, satellite observation, and models.
